How do you use the self-cleaning feature on an oven? Does it really work? Do you have to do anything besides turn it on? I have a Jenn-Air.
We asked the pros at Big George’s Home Appliance Mart in Ann Arbor,MI and what we found was very interesting.
Unofficially, the Jenn-air oven self cleaning feature has been known to melt the oven’s circuit board. (Although it is unlikely you will hear that from Jenn-Air itself.)
Instead, the installer with whom we spoke recommended we place a pan of water inside the oven and heat it to 500 degrees for 15 min. This will loosen all the grime and you can simply wipe it out.
An alternative method we tested is to sprinkle baking soda throughout the oven and spray with a water-misting bottle. Let that soak overnight (leave the oven off) and wipe it out in the morning. We found this method to be a little more messy because you now have to wipe out all that baking soda in addition to the grime. But it does really cut the grease.
