I received an email and saw a Facebook post that said that if I click on a link, give some info and post a link on Facebook I will get a $75 Costco coupon to celebrate their anniversary. Is this legit or a scam?

Don’t get too excited – the $75 Costco anniversary coupon is a scam. Costco debunked it with this Facebook post.

For the second year in a row people are getting fooled by a fake $75 Costco coupon that they see either in their email inbox or in their Facebook feed. It’s not just annoying, it could be dangerous.

The scam is asking people to enter personal information in order to get the coupon. DO NOT give your personal information. Better yet, it’s good policy to NEVER give personal information when you’ve clicked on a link. You never know who’s really behind the link and what they’re planning to do with your information. Instead, go directly to the company’s website to verify the offer. In this case, Costco provides all their current offers here.

So what do you do if you see the $75 Costco anniversary coupon offer?

If you get the email, don’t open it and just report it as spam (or move it to your junk folder). If one of your friends posts it on Facebook just don’t click on it. And you may want to let your friend know it’s a hoax.

Did you click on the link in the offer or give your information? We want to hear from you. Tell us about it in the comments below.
