Is it worth going to Babies R Us going out of business sale? Are there any good deals yet on toys, clothes, diapers, etc?
As of today, Thursday March 29, 2018, not really. We checked out the Northville, MI Babies R Us this morning and despite the signs that say “Up to 30% off” most everything is 10% off including toys. Some clothing is 20% off and sadly, diapers and health care items are excluded from the sale. 30% off items included cards, stationery, wrapping paper, gift bags, etc.
Despite these markdowns, be wary of prices. We noticed that even the 30% off items still weren’t even a good price. And definitely don’t count getting a good deal on toys. 10% off is barely a discount and that’s on top of what we thought to be marked up prices.
Despite the challenge, we scoured the whole store and did manage to find two pretty good deals (even if they didn’t really warrant the time or trip):
- Build Bonanza Building Block Tape (which works with Lego, Mega Bloks and other major brands). 12 feet of tape for $7.99. Compare to Kohl’s price $11.29, Target price $8.39, and Amazon price $5.00 (oops, we forgot to check Amazon first!).
- Lego DC Super Hero Girls Lashina Tank 145 piece set for $9.48 (orig. price $14.99, compare to Amazon price $10.99 and Target price $12.89)
Okay, so maybe we didn’t even get a pretty good deal since we messed up on the Building Block Tape by not checking Amazon. The lesson here is maybe wait a little while longer to head out to the Babies R Us going out of business sales.
If you do head to Babies R Us now, look for items that are marked down or already on clearance to stack the going out of business discount. We found these items didn’t really stand out so you’ll have to look carefully.
And no matter what, definitely take your smartphone and compare prices using an app for Amazon, Target, Kohl’s or any other store that allows price checking with a barcode scan. Make sure it’s a good deal because all sales are final!
Did you find a good deal at a Babies R Us or Toys R Us going out of business liquidation sale? Tell us about it in the comments!
