Smoothies are popular these days because they are full of health benefits and smoothies are super easy to make. There are as many different ways to make a smoothie as there are people who are drinking them!
If you’re new to the smoothie-making business, we tested a variety of easy smoothie recipes in search of the easiest formula from which to start. We came up with this simple protein smoothie with fruit (frozen strawberries and bananas), high-in-protein greek yogurt and kale (frozen).
The hardest part of starting out making smoothies is having all the ingredients. Who keeps kale in their fridge? Not us. And if we do have kale, chances are it will go bad before we get around to making our smoothie. So our advice: Buy packaged frozen kale. You don’t have to clean it, trim it, store it or worry about using it before it goes bad. And it’s pretty cheap too! Same for the fruit – we use packaged frozen strawberries in this easy smoothie recipe. For the recipe’s bananas we purchased fresh bananas and just cut them into about one inch pieces and froze them as soon as we got them home.

Simple Smoothie Recipe: High-in-Protein Greek Yogurt with Strawberry, Banana and Kale
First of all, don’t stress out about measurements. Smoothies are forgiving and all you have to do is add more yogurt, water or fruit to make an adjustment if you don’t like the taste or texture. That said, to make your simple smoothie:
- Get out your blender
- Dump in some vanilla greek yogurt, say a cup or so (or a few generous spoonfuls)
- Toss in at least 1 or 2 frozen bananas (sliced into about 1 inch pieces)
- Toss in a handful or so of frozen strawberries (we think you’ll want more bananas than strawberries so it is a smoother taste and not so tart, but again, you can adjust to suit your own taste)
- Toss in maybe a small handful of frozen kale (if you’re using a low cost blender like ours, the kale pieces don’t blend so well so adding too much can make your smoothie a little chunky)
- Start blending! Add a little bit of water at a time to get things moving in the blender and to thin it out a bit. You might have to use a spoon to mix things up at first.
You should have enough for a couple smoothies, so we suggest pouring your extra smoothie into a travel mug and store in the refrigerator.
Once you feel you’ve mastered this smoothie you can start varying it up a bit using different ingredients. Banana is usually used as a base because of its nice texture when blended and mild, smooth taste. In place of the strawberries, try blueberries, peaches or even avocados. Experiment and see what you like best then let us know in the comments below what kind of smoothie you invent!
For our simple smoothie recipe, we used the Oster 12-speed blender which is a great price, easy to use and works great for smoothies and more. You can find it on Amazon:
